How to Download Facebook Videos — Watch, Reels, and Feed Clips

Facebook's "Save video" option is a bookmark, not a download. The video stays on Facebook, gated behind your account and the app. If you want the file — a family moment, a local news clip, a recipe video you want to follow while cooking with no signal — you need to pull the actual MP4 out. It is easier than it sounds.

What kinds of Facebook videos can be saved?

  • Feed videos — clips posted by people, pages, and groups you can see.
  • Facebook Watch — shows and long-form videos.
  • Reels — Facebook's short videos, which behave just like feed clips once you have the link.

Private group videos and anything visible only to friends of the poster cannot be fetched — if you cannot open the link in a logged-out browser, neither can a downloader.

How to download a Facebook video

  1. Find the video and tap the three-dot menu in its top-right corner.
  2. Choose Copy link (on desktop, you can also copy the URL from the address bar).
  3. Paste the link into our Facebook downloader and press Download.
  4. Pick a quality — usually HD and SD options — and save the file.

Tips from experience

  • Mobile app links sometimes need cleanup. If a pasted fb.watch link fails, open the video in a browser and copy the full facebook.com/... URL instead.
  • HD depends on the upload. If the uploader posted in SD, no tool can conjure HD out of it.
  • Livestreams can be saved after they end if Facebook keeps the replay public.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for Facebook Reels?

Yes — copy the Reel's link the same way as any feed video.

Can I download a video from a private group I am in?

No. Downloaders only see what the public sees. Save those from within the app where Facebook allows it.

Why does the same video have two quality options?

Facebook re-encodes uploads into multiple sizes. Pick the largest available for the best picture.

Keep what matters

Old videos vanish when accounts close or pages delete posts. Open the Facebook downloader or paste a link on the home page and keep your copy safe.
